Surfrider and KEET

Thanks to all that made it out to Blue Lake to the Folk Life fest ! What an amazingly fun time it was for us .
This coming week is a big week for the band, with a television appearance and a benefit show! On tuesday the AQ will be performing a short set for PBS affiliate, KEET-TV. This show will be broadcast as part of a new series called the Lost Coast Sessions. We’ll give you the scoop on when our session will be aired. Then after a day of rest, we will be be cranking it up for a show at the Arcata Theatre on thursday. This show is for Ocean Night, a benefit with all proceeds going to one of our favorite grassroots groups, Surfrider. It’s all ages, doors at 6:30pm, movies at 7pm and the AQ starts at 9:30. See you there!

Humboldt Folk Life Festival

We are really excited about returning to the Humboldt Folk Life Fest for the first time in 3 years .  This fest was one of our first big outdoor gigs and holds a special place in our hearts.  If you have never been, you must get out to the Blue Lake sun and take in the great workshops and free music that goes on all day.  Also we believe the outdoor stage /amphitheater to be one of the best in Northern Humboldt .  So come on down and celebrate Humboldt’s diverse music .  Our set is at 7:00 on the amphitheater stage .

Introducing John Ludington

Summer is here! Hope everyone is enjoying it. We have a some big news here at Absynth Quintet headquarters. We are very excited to announce a lineup change with John Ludington taking over on bass full time. Big huge thanks and lots of love to Rudy “the heartbeat” Luera who manned the helm on the doghouse bass for many a year, he will be missed and we wish him well in all his homesteading and family pursuits. So what does a new bassist mean for the AQ? The transition from Rudy to John couldn’t be going smoother, with most of the repertoire rock-solid with new tunes and new ideas starting to emerge, often spontaneously, in the middle of a show. Old tunes from the Flying Baby Swing era that used to be 3 minutes long have recently expanded into full-on epic improvisations, and the band truly feels at the height of its game right now. With the new album, IOTA, nearing completion and John thumping along, bringing great energy to the stage, the summer shows are not to be missed. See the calendar for what we are up to and where we are playing, and we look forward to seeing you all again real soon!

San Fran

Hello internet world ! We here at the AQ are really looking forward to playing the San Fransico Folk Life fest with several of great groups that we love from all around the SF Bay area .  We are playing at 3:30 right after our good friends the Blushin Roulettes so come on down and check out this great event .  You can check the event calender and show times as there is so much to see and do.  We are also playing that evening at the 42 anniversary show at the Freight and Salvage.  This promises to be a full show so get your tickets soon here.  We are looking at a fun summer as the shows are starting to line up and the album is in it’s final stages.  Looking forward to seeing you all this summer .
